Requirements for Passport and DPI at the Consulate of Guatemala in the USA

Requirements for Passport (First Time or Renewal)

If you are an adult:

  • Recent Birth Certificate (Not older than 6 months) issued by RENAP that contains a CUI number or your DPI; you must also present the original and a photocopy of both sides.

If you are a minor:

  • Both parents must present their original Personal Identification Document (DPI). If they do not have it, they must provide an original and recent birth certificate with a Unique Identification Code (CUI) number.
  • An original and recent birth certificate of the child, which also includes the Unique Identification Code (CUI) number.
  • Both parents' Birth Certificates, recent (original and copy).
  • Current passport of both parents (original and copy).

What if one of the parents is in Guatemala?

If one or both parents are in Guatemala, in any state of the United States, or any other part of the world, they must sign a Letter of Authorization that allows the child to obtain a passport at the Consulate.

What if one of the parents has passed away?

If one of the parents has passed away, an original and recent copy of the Death Certificate issued by RENAP must be presented.

Personal Identification Document (DPI) Processing

If you want to process your DPI, you will need the following:

  • Birth Certificate issued by RENAP.

Processing the Guatemalan Consular Identification Card (TICG or Consular ID)

If you are looking to process your TICG (Consular ID), you must present one of the following documents in original and a photocopy:

  • Personal Identification Document -DPI-
  • Birth Certificate issued by RENAP
  • Passport

Issuance of a DPI

Requirements for issuing a new DPI

  • Birth Certificate (very recent, issued in 2020 or after), issued by RENAP. You must bring the original and a photocopy.
  • Proof of current address (it can be an electricity bill, water bill, cable bill, or any similar service).

Requirements for DPI renewal

Before attending your appointment, you must make a request to RENAP for verification of enrollment in SIRECI. Also, you must keep a screenshot of the process.

  • Your previous DPI - original and photocopy of both sides.
  • Birth Certificate (recent, issued in 2017 or after), issued by RENAP. Remember to bring the original and a photocopy.
  • Proof of current address (it can be a water bill, electricity bill, cable bill, among others).

Processing the Consular Card

For adults:

  • DPI
  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate

It is necessary that you only present one of these three documents and a copy of it.

For minors:

  • Passport
  • Recent Birth Certificate issued by RENAP

In the case of minors, they must attend accompanied by their parents, guardian, or person in charge of custody; they must identify themselves with their original and current DPI or Passport.
